Better ReSizer for Blender
Current Version: 1.11
Author: KerkLord
Blender Compatibility: 3.3.0+
Overview
BetterReSizer is a powerful yet flexible addon for Blender, designed to give you total control over how you scale objects, cameras, lights, keyframes, and materials in your scene. Its panel-based interface integrates directly into Blender’s 3D View sidebar, providing a one-stop shop for quick and consistent resizing tasks.
Key Features
-
Global or Selective Scaling
- Only Selected: Restrict scaling operations to objects you’ve explicitly selected (plus their children).
- Exclude Selected: Invert the process to skip scaling for those selected while scaling everything else.
-
Per-Type Toggles
Control exactly which types of objects get scaled. Easily include or exclude:- Cameras
- Lights (including light intensity scaling)
- Armatures
- Empties
- Grease Pencil objects
- Standard Mesh objects
-
Material & Keyframe Scaling
- Include Materials: Automatically updates VALUE nodes named or labeled “Scale” in your materials.
- Include Keyframes: Scales location and scale keyframes, preserving animation integrity.
-
Powerful Undo/Reset System
- Undo Scale: Revert your last scaling operation in a single click.
- Reset Scale: Completely restore your scene to its original state from before any BetterReSizer transformations.
-
Intuitive UI
- A dedicated panel under Better Blender in the 3D View Sidebar.
- Clear tooltips and controls to guide you through each step of the resize process.
-
Light Energy Adjustments
- If lights are included, their energy is automatically scaled by the factor² to preserve scene lighting balance at the new size.
-
Child Object Awareness
- When using Only Selected, BetterReSizer automatically includes child objects for changes to materials or keyframes, even if you don’t transform-scale the child’s location or scale.
How It Works
-
Set Your Scale Factor
In the BetterReSizer panel, choose the numeric value by which you want to scale your objects. -
Choose What to Include
Use the toggles to decide if you want to include cameras, lights, armatures, empties, etc. You can also opt to scale keyframes and material value nodes. -
Select Specific Objects or the Entire Scene
- Enable Only Selected to target just your selected objects (plus their children).
- Use Exclude Selected if you want everything else to scale except the ones you have selected.
-
Apply Scale
Click Apply Scale and the addon handles the transforms, keyframes, and material updates in one step. -
Undo or Reset (Optional)
- Undo Scale rolls back your latest operation.
- Reset Scale returns everything to the original state before you started using BetterReSizer.
Installation
- In Blender, go to Edit → Preferences → Add-ons.
- Click Install, then browse to the
.py
file you downloaded. - Enable the addon by checking the box next to BetterReSizer.
- A new “BetterReSizer” panel will appear in the 3D Viewport → Sidebar → Better Blender tab.
Usage Tips
- Layered Approach: Feel free to apply multiple scaling passes. Each operation is saved to a history stack, so you can always step backward if the result isn’t what you expected.
- Material Consistency: Make sure your target materials have a Value node named or labeled “Scale” if you want to use the built-in material scaling feature.
- Animation Adjustments: With Include Keyframes enabled, location and scale keyframes get multiplied by the scale factor. This can save hours of manual re-keyframing.
- Light Intensity: Because light intensity often depends on surface area, scaling intensity by scale_factor² maintains approximate visual consistency when you enlarge or reduce your scene.
